Mafia raj prevails in MP: Scindia

Madhya Pradesh Congress poll panel chairperson and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has accused the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government of failing to maintain law and order in the state.

MP is run by the mafia nowadays, Scindia said at a rally in Sagar district, 171km from state capital Bhopal, on Thursday.

“The government has failed miserably to protect women,” he said, tearing into the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the MP assembly polls slated for November 25.

“Rape and malnutrition cases have reached an alarming level and this is a shame.”

Scindia, minister of state for power, turned the heat on the Chouhan government over the October 13 Ratangarh Temple stampede in which 115 pilgrims were killed.

The state has done nothing to bring an end to such incidents, he said.

Scindia said the BJP’s Atal Jyoti Yojana, a power supply project, was an insult to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Farmers are in a miserable condition and reeling under hefty electricity bills, he said. “If the Congress comes to power in MP, all the previous electricity bills will be waived,” he added.

“The Centre has given money for better electricity supply to rural areas, but the BJP government is trying to reap the benefits.”

Scindia took a dig at Chouhan for setting out on a statewide yatra ahead of the polls, while farmers were bearing the brunt of soybean crop loss owing to heavy rains.

The Congress leader also charged the state government with corruption, saying, “It is a matter of shame that 11 state ministers are facing corruption charges.”

Scindia said the BJP government had failed to create employment opportunities.

“The state government has held several meetings with investors and inked MoUs worth Rs 12 lakh crore. But nothing has come out of these pacts.”
