Maha Assembly Deputy Speaker to be elected on Dec 7

The Deputy Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly would be elected on December 7, the House was informed on Thursday.

The Deputy Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly would be elected on December 7, the House was informed today. When the Lower House re-assembled after an half-hour adjournment today, Panel Presiding Officer Dilip Sopal announced the schedule for the Deputy Speakers' election.

Accordingly, all nominations can be filed on December 4 upto 10 AM which will be scrutinised by noon.

Nominations can be withdrawn by 3 PM. The election for the post of Deputy Speaker would be held on December 7 between 10-11.30 AM. The Lower House will thereafter commence sitting from 1 PM.

The post fell vacant after the incumbent Madhukar Chavan, was inducted into the new Prithiviraj Chavan cabinet. He is now Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairly Development.
