A high-level committee would be set up to design school syllabus in Maharashtra, School Education Minister Radhkrishna Vikhe-Patil informed the Legislative Council in Mumbai on Saturday.
"A high-level committee would be set up to prepare the syllabus for schools and form guidelines for the same," Vikhe-Patil said.
The announcement came after opposition members objected to removal of certain topics from the textbooks.
Taking serious congnisance of the objections, the Minister said such mistakes can be avoided with the committee's guidelines. "It is a question of Maharashtra's pride and mistakes should be omitted in the textbooks," he said.
Vikhe-Patil said it has been observed that the same people are designing the syllabus over the last several years and a new committee is required to meet changing times.
On the objections raised by the opposition for removal of some topics, the Minister assured to conduct an enquiry.
BJP leader Madhu Chavan had raised the issue that Dadoji Konddeo's name, as Chhatrapati Shivaji's teacher, has been removed from Standard 4th textbooks. RSS founder Keshav Hedgewar and former Hindu Mahasabha president Madan Mohan Malviya's references have also been removed from Standard 8th books, he said.
