I am currently posted in Mumbai and I like the city a lot. However, I am very curious about the tourist destinations around the city and since am planning to go on a short monsoon break, I am thinking of exploring places close to the city itself. Please assist and suggest some places that I could visit in about five days.
Well, if you are planning a week-long trip, then you can plan the following: If you like nature, you can head towards Mahabaleshwar. At 4,500 feet, it is one of the best hill stations in Maharashtra. You can avail of the Volvo bus services from Mumbai. The journey will take about six hours and the distance is around 220 km. You can spend a couple of days here and then head to Pune, which is about 115 kms from Mahabaleshwar.
It is a historical place with memories of Shivaji, the great Maratha king in every nook and corner. Spend a day there, or head to Lonavala, another picturesque hill station, about 100 km from Mumbai. After spending a couple of days here, you can head back to Pune, 64 kms away. You can easily spend two nights at Lonavala and a night at Khandala, another hill station located barely three kms away.
