India's Mahan Singh won the men's long jump event on the opening day of the UK Athletics Throws and Jump Festival in Birmingham.
Mahan leapt to 7.55m in his 5th attempt to edge out Andre Fernandez, one of the top UK jumpers, who was leading till then with 7.54m.
Hari Shankar Roy improved on his last week's performance in the men's high jump at the same venue during the Birmingham Games. He cleared 2.14m and finished second overall. In shot put, Satyender Singh finished third with a throw of 17.61m. The Indian athletes are on a training-cum-competition trip to England.
