Maharashtra notched around 48 per cent voter turnout at the end of polling for the assembly elections on Tuesday evening, an official said.

The final figures will be available late Tuesday evening. Barring a few stray incidents, polling was by and large peaceful across the state.

The electorate cast their votes in 84,136 polling stations across the state to elect 288 representatives from among 3,559 contenders, including 211 women. Counting of votes will be held Oct 22.
