A 22-year-old domestic help received bullet injuries on Sunday in what her employers claimed was accidental firing.

Her relatives claimed they were told she was wounded when another domestic help was trying to chase a monkey with a gun that went off. However, the employer told police he was cleaning the gun and accidentally fired at her.

Till late evening, Meena Das was in a critical condition with bullet splinters in her right chest. They have also damaged the right lung, doctors said.

Her relative Anita Das told HT she received a call from Meena’s employer in Sector 15 that she suffered injuries while working at their house. “We rushed there and with them took the Meena to Kailash Hospital. Bullets hit Meena in the chest,” said Anita.

But Sector 20 Police Station, Station Head Officer Narender Sharma, said: “House owner V.K. Garg’s son Akshay was cleaning a gun when it accidentally fired. We have detained Akshay

and are awaitng a complaint from Meena’s husband.”
