Citing the patriarchal society, the leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj blamed the male mindset which according to her acts as a hurdle to secure political empowerment of women.
Talking to journalists in Raipur on Sunday, Swaraj asserted that the political empowerment for women is most important since it will lead her to assume a position of authority that gradually would pave way for the overall upliftment of women.
She regretted that the bill has been on the agenda for the last 14 years, yet it failed to become a reality. "We hope that Women Reservation Bill will pass through the Rajya Sabha through the joint cooperation of the opposition parties, the ruling Congress and the Left".
She admitted that the passage of the Bill will not be easy since it has witnessed both strong support as well as intense opposition.
The Bill is slated to come up in Rajya Sabha on Monday. Both the Congress and BJP have already asked their MPs in the Upper House to vote in favour of the Bill.
