AFTER A gap of a quarter century, Indore will finally have a blueprint for development. Urban Administration Development Minister Jayant Mallaiya will unveil the Indore Development Plan (master plan) at Jall Sabha Griha in Indore at 2.30 pm on Thursday.

Mayor Dr Uma Shashi Sharma, local MLAs, Minister Prakash Sonkar and Town and Country Planning Director S N Mishra will attend.

The master plan proposes a planning area of 37004 hectares, an increase of 11,704 hectares over the scrapped 2011 master plan, with a design population of 37 lakh.

The unveiling will be followed by month-long claims and objections period following which the master plan will be adopted. The present City development plan is the first since 1971. A subsequent City development plan with a design year of 2011 proposed in the mid-1990s was scrapped following allegations of favouritism.

The 2021 plan has not been without its share of controversies, either. Rumours that the master plan was leaked out to powerful politicians and select builders stubbornly refuse to die down.
