Kingfisher Airlines Chairman Vijay Mallya has been accused by rival IndiGo airlines of spreading rumours about its decline. IndiGo claims that Mallya sent bulk SMS to airlines users misleading them about IndiGo’s operations and services.
“We were alerted when Vijay Mallya re-tweeted TV journalist Barkha Dutt, where she complained about IndiGo flights running late and predicted decline of the airlines,” an IndiGo official said, “Mallya is followed by over 1.3 million Twitter users and we saw this as an attempt to tarnish our image.”
The official further claimed that the airlines alerted their staff to keep an eye over any further “mischief.”
“Yesterday we got information that many people got this SMS – we are sorry to inform that all IndiGo flights are running late, you are requested to continue doing what you are doing – this SMS was received by people who had not booked any air ticket at all!” IndiGo official said. IndiGo claims that this SMS was sent at the behest of Vijay Mallya, and has asked DGCA to conduct an inquiry.
When contacted, Vijay Mallya rubbished the reports.“It proves that IT systems of IndiGo are in bad shape and are sending spam messages,” Mallya claimed, “TRAI should conduct an inquiry.” Experts predict bitter rivalry between Kingfisher and IndiGo in coming days.
