Sandeep Dikshit’s (44) victory in these elections was never doubted. Being the chief minister’s son, he enjoyed support of party workers, municipal councillors and MLAs.
People just wanted to know the margin with which he would win. He got 2.41 lakh votes more than BJP’s Chetan Chauhan in what was the highest vote difference in Delhi.
It is not just Sandeep Dikshit, the sitting MP, who got such support from the electorate. Dikshit accepted that a lot of credit goes to the Delhi government and development work that it did in the last 10 years.
Dikshit’s performance shows the evident shift of middle class and educated urban voters towards the Congress.

Developing the Yamuna Khadar area, bringing East Delhi at par with other parts of the city and improving sanitation facilities.
