West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday gave a new spin to the actor Shah Rukh Khan versus Mumbai Cricket Academy (MCA) fracas.

Banerjee told reporters that Kolkata Knight Rider (KKR)-owner and Bengal brand ambassador Khan might have been victimised by the

Maharastra government after his team thrashed the home team on home turf on May 17.

“At Eden Gardens Mumbai Indians defeated KKR. At Wankhede, KKR won against Mumbai Indians. One has to take both win and defeat in its true spirit,” said Banerjee at the state secretariat.

Describing the incident as a “small one” she said, “The incident is being blown out of proportion. I have heard Shah Rukh’s daughter and a few other children were with him. The security guards had ill-treated and even manhandled some of the children to which he protested.”

Asked whether she was batting for Khan because he was the brand ambassador of the state, Banerjee said, “I am saying these things as a citizen of India who loves Shah Rukh and Sachin equally.” Earlier, MCA had banned Shah Rukh for five years.
