Mayor of Kolkata Sovan Chatterjee, it seems, has a way with water. Nicknamed Jal (water) Sovan for his stint as the city’s water supply chief when the Trinamool Congress ruled the Kolkata Municipal Corporation between 2000 and 2005, Chatterjee never imagined his tryst with water would take such a literal twist.
On Sunday, while inaugurating a swimming pool in south Kolkata, Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee pushed him in. "Didi never pushes me beyond my depth" Chatterjee said, on Monday. "I know swimming."
At the event, Mamata did all things expected of her — CPI(M) bashing, for one — till she decided to play this prank. Moments after the mayor regained composure, Didi said, "Come out... Else, you will catch cold."
A loyal Chatterjee later said, "Wait for a few months. Didi will push the entire Left Front cabinet into the Hooghly river. And they won’t get time to recover."
Bengal assembly polls are just about four months away.
