Mamata Banerjee was on Friday re-elected unopposed for a five year term as the chairperson of the Trinamool Congress in a party organisational poll.

Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy told reporters that Banerjee was the sole contender for the post. No other nomination was filed.

Banerjee's election was announced by returning officer Tomonash Ghosh.

Roy said that Election Commission has been informed about Banerjee's election as the Trinamool Congress chairperson.

The election of other office bearers, he said, would be held at the next meeting of the party's general council.
