West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee wants to visit Pakistan, Pakistan’s high commissioner in India, Salman Bashir said after meeting her on Monday.
"She expressed her desire to visit Pakistan and we readily welcomed it," Bashir, who is on his farewell tour, said at Press Club. Incidentally, Mamata has never gone abroad since assuming the reins of the state.
She had even cancelled her US visit citing workload in her office. "The high commissioner of Pakistan has conveyed to me the invitation of the prime minister of Pakistan to visit their country at a convenient time," Banerjee wrote on Facebook. She also mentioned the delegation has expressed their interest in cultural and other exchange programme in social sector with West Bengal.
Speaking to the media, Bashir said the visit to Kolkata was with a mission to strengthen the bond between Kolkata and various states in Pakistan, and convey the message of Pakistan’s ‘sincere desire to reach out to West Bengal in a cooperative endeavour’ to revive and reconstruct the bond between the two places.
