A man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly impersonating UP power minister Ramvir Upadhaya and making a phone call to the district magistrate office in Gonda for facilitating issuance of his arm licence, police said.

A man, identified as Sarvesh Tewari, had recently called the district magistrate's office and asked to facilitate issuance of the arm licence. The caller, posing as Upadhaya, claimed Tewari was his relative and his licence be issued soon, SP Durga Charan Misra said.

On inquiry, DM Ram Bahadur found that neither the minister nor his office has made any such call, the SP said, adding that the residence proof as well as the affidavit submitted with the application was also fake.
