Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping his minor sister for the last two years.
The accused was arrested from Fort William, the headquarters of the army’s eastern command, in the city on Saturday after his 17-year-old sister called Childline, the national helpline for child abuse.
The accused and his sister are younger siblings of a junior army official posted in the engineering section and lived in an apartment inside Fort William, police said.
“After getting the call from the girl, we contacted the Maidan police station and the girl was rescued. She is traumatised and will be counselled,” said Monideepa Ghosh of Cini Asha organisation which runs Childline in Kolkata.
The girl gave her confidential statement to a magistrate on Tuesday. A court has remanded the accused, who works for a private security agency, in police custody till Friday.
