Thousands of job seekers across the country were duped by a fake website of Railway Recruitment Board-Bhopal (RRB-Bhopal), say UP police. The special task force of UP police on Wednesday said they have arrested a 25-year-old techie from Lucknow, Shivendu Madhav, who created the fake website of RRB-Bhopal.

Shivendu was mastermind of a gang which posted advertisement for recruitment for different posts. Police said the gang invited applications for 11,289 posts. In the website, an applicant was supposed to get himself registered for the post and pay processing fee of Rs 300 for reserved category and Rs 500 for general category posts. The last day for submitting the forms was October 10.

“The fake website was hosted on a US-based server and they had taken the payment gateway in Mumbai. Cops arrested the mastermind from Lucknow. The other gang members are yet to be arrested who are operational in cities of UP and Bihar,” said additional superintendent of police (ASP), UP STF, Triveni Singh.

HT spoke to a Delhi-based youth. “I still don’t believe that the website was fake. I made a payment of Rs 500 and was preparing for the exam,” said Anshul Singh, a resident of Azadpur area.
