Man chops wife's nose, ears!

india Updated: Aug 04, 2006 19:50 IST

A horrifying incident took place in Kanpur colony in Uttar Pradesh where a husband crossed all limits of brutality and inhumanity against his wife.

Rakesh Mishra chopped off his wife's nose and ear only because she resisted his effort to sell off her own daughter to someone in just Rs 50,000. Due to financial constraints at home, Rakesh decided to sell off his eldest daughter Neetu Mishra to someone in nearby colony for only Rs 50,000 but before he could do that his wife got a hint of his bad intention.

She resisted and vowed that she would never allow her daughter to be sold off. But in this effort to save her daughter's life and pride she had to pay a heavy price. Says she, "When I told him that I will not allow him to sell our daughter, he told me to go inside the kitchen and make tea for him. He told me he would not sell her. But when I was working in the kitchen he came in, took a knife and took no time to chop off my nose and both of my ears. I fell down and started crying in severe pain. Some of the colony people gathered and took me to a hospital."

Organizations like Mahilla Manch have come forward in aid of Manju. They have borne the expenses of her treatment also. Says Neelam Chaturvedi, President of Mahilla Manch Kanpur, "What is very surprising is that even after such a heinous crime police has not arrested the husband. Police has not even lodged any FIR in this case. We have decided not to let her husband go scot-free. We will fight for her and until police register an FIR we will not give in."

After this incident, Manju Mishra's other two daughters are in a constant state of shock.
