A 22 year-old man allegedly involved in trafficking of women from other states and arrested in Chennai recently, was detained under the Goondas Act on Friday.
Lakshmanan alias Karthick, a 'habitual trafficker' was arrested early this month and a minor girl from Mumbai was rescued from the brothel he was running at Anna Nagar in Chennai, the CB-CID wing of the state police said on Friday.
Since the accused was found to be a 'habitual trafficker,' the CB-CID initiated a proposal before the City police and obtained detention orders under the Goondas Act.
The detention order was served on the trafficker at Central prison, Puzhal, on Friday, the agency said in a press release.
The CB-CID police have of late intensified their crackdown against the flesh trade in the city and have rescued women, especially those brought from other states like Andhra Pradesh.
