Samina, A resident of village Niazupura on the outskirts of Muzaffarngar, has filed a complaint with the SSP that her husband, Shahnawaj, procured her signatures on stamp paper at pistol point and turned her out of the house.

The Talaqnama on the stamped paper says the decision was taken in a Panchayat but none of the five persons, who signed it as 'Panchas', come in relation with the wife.

Samina explained that this was done to escape the payment of any 'Meher', which the husband was duty bound to pay, in case he uttered Talaq himself. Also, by adopting this new technique, the husband would not have to return the dowry. Samina added that her husband was willing to take her back provided she brings a few items as additional dowry.

The police summoned Shahnawaz but he did not turn up. Muslim scholars and the head of Imam Organisation, Mufti Zulfiqar said the marriage does not stand dissolved.
