A Somerset man scoffed down 26 mince pies in 10 minutes during a national extreme eating competition. Clive Pearson munched his way through a stack of pies to claim the 1,000-pound top prize at the Big Eat contest, at Wookey Hole, Wells, Somerset.
The 34-year-old cruised to victory after using a drink-pie-drink-pie tactic during the ten-minute eat-off. However, he later admitted he needed more training if he was to take the Americans on at the sport.
"You need something to wash them down. I once liked mince pies. I'm not so sure now," the Mirror quoted him, as saying. Pearson also expressed his hope to represent Britain at a scoffing contest in Las Vegas.
However, he fell some way short of the record set last year by American professional Sonya Thomas, who gulped down 46 mince pies in the same time.
