The Wagle Estate police station (Thane) has arrested a 37-year-old man for forgery and possessing illegal arms on Wednesday. A single barrel rifle without license was found in the possession of Subhash Tiwari, a resident of Ghodbunder Road, Thane (West).

“We had received information that a person will be arriving near Nitin Company to sell an illegal firearm on Wednesday evening. We laid a trap and caught hold of the accused,” said Ashok Morale, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V).

The police conducted a thorough search of Tiwari’s residence and recovered a double barrel rifle, seven rubber stamps bearing the seals of district collector and tehsildar of Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. The police also seized five rounds from the house.

“Tiwari used to work as a security guard in an agency. He said that they got the rifles from Uttar Pradesh and had brought it here for sale.”
