A 25-year-old chemist was on Thursday arrested for sending obscene SMSes to a former colleague. Vidhyesh Nalavade, a Dombivli resident, had been sending messages to the woman, 29, for the past one year.
Nalavade and the complainant, who is married and lives in Thane, used to work in the same private pharmaceutical firm in Santacruz.
Things took a turn for the worse when Nalavade told the complainant that he loved her. In her complaint, the woman said she declined the proposal and told Nalavade that she was married.
Despite the rejection, Nalavade persisted. He began to send her obscene messages. The complainant said that she, along with her husband, asked him to stop and even switched her cell phone off, but Nalavade started messaging her on her husband’s cell phone.
“Early this year, the woman complained to her senior at work, following which Nalavade was sacked. But he continued to harass her by sending obscene messages. She filed a complaint with the Thane police a few days ago and we arrested him,” said JA More, police sub-inspector, Thane nagar police station.
More added, “He has done his masters in Science and now works as a chemist in another firm. We suspect that he may have sent such messages to other colleagues as well and investigations are on.”
Nalavade has been booked under section 509 (word, act or gesture intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced in court on Thursday and has been released on bail.
