A government doctor, along with his father, has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping his eight-month-old son for dowry.

According to the police, Himmat Singh, accompanied by about 10 people, forced his entry to Ritu's house at Shivaji Nagar here and pulled his grandchild from her lap on Friday and fled in a car. Ritu, who married Dr Devender Raghav in 2009, lives at her father's residence after her relationship with husband went sour.

After a complaint by the victim, the police on Saturday registered a case of abduction and dowry against Raghav and his father Himmat Singh under various sections of IPC. Later, the duo was arrested.

On Monday, a local court remanded Raghav and Singh in three-day police custody for further interrogation. The child has been recovered.

The police said that Ritu's family had accused her in-laws of demanding dowry. The victim's family alleged that the dowry was the motive behind the kidnapping of the child. Ritu has not been in cordial relation with her doctor husband, who is currently posted at a government hospital in Jhajjar district.

They have been demanding Rs 20 lakh from Ritu's father to open a clinic, said a police officer.

According to the police, Singh had come to the Ritu;s house in a SUV vehicle to carry out the abduction of his grandchild.
