A Delhi court on Saturday sentenced a 55 year old man to ten years imprisonment for attempting to rape an 11 year old girl.

Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Tiwari also imposed a fine of Rs 2000 on the convict Hamid Hussain after a year-long trial basing his judgment largely on the statement of the prosecutor.

However, taking into consideration convict's age and ailment of asthma, the judge and ordered him to undergo simple imprisonment.

On June 7 last year, the girl's father lodged a complaint with the Ashok Nagar police station in east Delhi, that Hussain, living in the adjacent room, had been sexually abusing his minor daughter for the last two months.

According to the complaint, Hussain, whom the girl used to address as 'Dada' (granduncle), always took the girl into his room in the absence of her mother working in a Noida factory and father who was ill.

On the day of the incident, the victim was seen by her father coming out of Hussain's room. When asked, she narrated the incident to her father.
