The body of an eight-year-old boy, who was murdered by his father was recovered in Surat on Monday.
Mukesh Markana, a resident of this Gujarat city, had filed a police complaint, claiming his son, Yash, had been abducted by some Hindi-speaking people on Sunday. He had also told the police that the abductors had demanded R50 lakh as ransom.
Mukesh said the kidnappers had killed his son as he was unable to pay the entire amount.
Police probe revealed that Mukesh had murdered his son and later try to kill himself because he was under heavy debt.
"He narrated a story about abduction and ransom but when the police interrogated him, he broke down the confessed of killing his son and subsequently trying to commit suicide," police inspector V.B. Patel told HT.
"It appears that he was totally frustrated because of heavy debt of over R30 lakh. He killed his son first and then tried to commit suicide but he could not do it so created a story of abduction and ransom," Patel said.
According to police record, Mukesh was running a small embroidery factory in the city.
