Man looted, dies in police station

AN INCIDENT of loot turned into a tragedy when an elderly person, who was looted by two youths, died after lodging an FIR at Kamla Nagar police station here on Monday night.

According to Superintendent of Police Anant Kumar Singh,  Kewal Kishor Verma (70), a resident of 26, Nivesh Nagar near MANIT and a wholesale pharmaceutical dealer, was looted of more than Rs 60,000 by two motorcycle-borne youths, when he was entering his house.

The SP said Verma, after completing his day’s work, was on his way back home by his car, dropped at two medical shops near Katju Hospital and Jawahar Chowk.

After that the victim reached home and his driver was carrying his briefcase approached the gate of the house. All of a sudden a youth came and put chilli powder on the eyes of both and snatched away the briefcase containing money and escaped on motorcycle. Verma, whose son is away in Punjab to attend a marriage, called the brother-in-law of his son, Dr Nilesh, and they went to Kamla Nagar police station to lodge a complain.

After the case was registered, Verma asked for a glass of water and immediately after it he complained of chest pain. He was taken to nearby Sharda Hospital, where he died reportedly due to severe cardiac arrest.

The SP said that the family members of Verma told that he had been suffering from heart problem. The police have registered a case of loot under section 394. The police have issued alert all over the City to nab the culprits.
