A 33-year-old man was mercilessly beaten by six men after he was caught stealing garlic from a house at Gulwa village near Dhar early Tuesday morning, leading to his death, police said.

Sanjay Brijlal was beaten up by Ramesh, Mukesh, Mahesh, Subhash, Dashrath and Balmukund, superintendent of police Rajesh Hingankar said.

The accused had caught Sanjay while stealing garlic from Ramesh’s house.

After thrashing him, they handed him over to the police, who took him to a hospital where he succumbed.

Police subsequently arrested one of the accused after registering a case of murder and were searching for the other five men who absconded, Hingankar said.
