A MAN was stabbed to death at Bittan Market late on Sunday night. The attackers reportedly had an old enmity with the deceased. According to police, the incident occurred at around 11:30 pm.

The victim, Prahlad Sharma, a resident of Nehru Nagar, ran a tea-stall near the telephone exchange at Bittan Market where the accused, Rajiv Sengar, a resident of Ravi Shankar Nagar, operated a cycle stand. Sengar had confrontations with Sharma several times in the past and today also there was a row between them.

Sengar’s family, including his father and brothers, allegedly abused Sharma. This angered Sharma and he had an altercation with Sengar. Later Sharma, accompanied by another youth, stabbed him with a knife in the back, police said. However, the single stab proved fatal for Sharma, who fell unconscious.

He was rushed to the JP Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. SP Anant Kumar Singh and other senior police officials rushed to the spot soon after the murder. Profuse bleeding is believed to have caused the death.

The body was being sent for post-mortem. The Habibganj police had registered a case in this regard and launched a hunt for the killers.
