A 70 year old Ghaziabad man died of shock on June 23, after reading that he had been cremated six days ago.
The dead man, Than Singh, got an official document from the Hindon cremation ground which said that Singh had died on June 17 and his body had been cremated the next day. The document also mentioned that Singh had been cremated on platform number 5, adding to its authenticity.
“Seeing the cremation-slip, my father went into shock. He wanted to go the Hindon cremation ground to get to the bottom of things,” said Ajay Kumar, Singh son. But he was so disturbed that he had a cardiac failure and died on Wednesday before medical help could reach him.
Hindon cremation-ground officials claim that the document delivered at Singh’s home was forged and no such cremation-slips are issued and sent through posts.
“We have checked our records and there is no entry related to Than Singh’s death. It seems that someone duplicated our slips and played a prank with the family. It is really unfortunate,” said Prince Sharma, an official at Hindon cremation-grounds.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Raghubir Lal was said an investigation will be initiated once the family filed an FIR. Than Singh ran a dairy and a printing press with his three sons.
