Man taken into custody ahead of 'Shravani Mela'

A man with shaven head and beard was spotted at Deogarh temple and has been taken into preventive custody, police said on Thursday.

The Superintendent of Police, Subodh Prasad said Devnath Gop alias Anwar was taken into custody on Wednesday on security grounds and was being interrogated.

He wore a garland around his shaven head and sported a 'tilak'.

The month-long 'Shravani Mela' begins on July 26 and the police have taken strong security measures to see off the festival month peacefully, according to official sources.

On all four Mondays of Shravan, the festival month, devotees go to Sultanganj in Bihar, fetch water from the Ganga and cover about 105 km on foot to offer obeisance at the world famous Baijnath temple in Deogarh.

The festival attracts people even from other religions.
