A day after All India Congress Committee member Pradeep Tyagi was shot dead at his residence in Rajnagar by three men, the Ghaziabad police claimed to have cracked the case. But one of the people, who, the police claimed, had given them information about the alleged killers, died on Friday.
The police said Yogesh Tyagi, 44, died of a heart attack. Denying that he was picked up for interrogation, SP (City) Vijay Bhushan said: “He came to Kavi Nagar police station on his own to give us information about the case.”
Bhushan said Tyagi told the police that the conspiracy to kill the Congress leader was hatched inside Dasna Jail by Yogesh’s elder brother, Bhagmal Tyagi, and two other inmates — Anil Kumar from Garh in Ghaziabad and Babloo Kumar of Muzaffarnagar. They wanted to kill Pradeep Tyagi because of some personal enmity, said Bhushan.
“While talking, Yogesh Tyagi complained of chest pain. He was admitted to Sarvodaya Hospital at around 2.30 pm, where he died during treatment,” Bhushan said.
Family members of Yogesh Tyagi could not be contacted.
Sources, however, said investigations in the case were carried out at an unknown location and the station officer later accompanied Yogesh Tyagi to Kavinagar police station.
The SP (City) denied these charges and SSP L. Ravi Kumar could not be contacted. “We have sent his body for post-mortem. If anyone is at fault, he will be strictly dealt with,” the SP (City) said.
