Hours after the Supreme Court ordered release of BJP leader Varun Gandhi on parole in the hate-speech case, hundreds of BJP supporters today gathered outside Etah jail where his mother Maneka Gandhi also came to meet him.
Maneka reached here this afternoon around 2.30 pm and went to meet her son inside the jail as Varun's lawyer were completing formalities including an undertaking that he would not make any inflammatory and provocative speeches during parole period.
The affidavit will be submitted before the superintendent of Etah jail, as directed by the apex court.
However, BJP Pilibhit candidate's release may be delayed as the district authorities had not received the copy of the court order yet. "The proceedings of the release can only be started after we receive an order from the Supreme Court," Etah District Magistrate Gaurav Dayal said.
While Maneka was still inside the jail, hundreds of jubilant BJP workers carrying saffron flags assembled outside waiting for Varun's release.
Meanwhile, several supporters also raised slogans against the authorities accusing them of deliberately delaying Varun's release.
