In the first case of swine flu in the state, a 19-year-old Manipuri woman fencer who recently returned to Imphal from Singapore has tested positive for the deadly virus, official sources said on Friday.

Sources said the player had been to Singapore to participate in a sporting event from July 14 to 22 and after her return to the city on July 23 she complained of uneasiness and high fever.

Following this, her blood sample was sent to a laboratory in New Delhi. The confirmation of her infection was received on Friday, the sources said. She has been hospitalised.

Health officials arranged for the player’s family members to undergo tests and efforts were being made to check all the passengers who arrived along with the fencer on July 23.
