Police in Bihar have booked former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi’s daughter over the alleged murder of her daughter-in-law Soni Kumari.

A case of murder was filed in Delha on Monday against Manjhi’s elder daughter Sunaina Devi -- a Gaya corporator -- following a complaint from Soni’s family.

Three other people have been arrested in connection with the case and are being interrogated.

Soni’s father Ramdev Manjhi in his complaint alleged that Sunaina , her father-in-law Yogendra Prasad and Soni’s husband Vicky Kumar, along with others, brutally murdered his daughter and immediately cremated the body to destroy evidence.

Police claimed it appeared from available evidence that she went “missing” under mysterious circumstances.

Vicky, however, said he was aware of the allegations and that they were “out to search for her as she has gone into hiding”.

This was contradicted by Ramdev who said he was informed about his daughter’s death by Yogendra and Sunaina while he was on his way to his native village.

“When I wanted to see the body, I was told that it had been consigned to flames,” he said. “I will never let anyone, whosoever he might be, go scot-free”.

Delha police station SHO Chetnanand Jha said he had received complaints from both sides, and that prima facie police were “ convinced about a conspiracy.”
