Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers party state president and MLA Udhampur Balwant Singh Mankotia along with party workers on Thursday staged a dharna to protest against the state government and district administration for their reported failure to distribute relief material among the flood victims in the Jammu province.
Mankotia said that the state government has failed to provide relief to the flood-affected people, especially those staying in the hilly and far flung areas of the Jammu province in general and Udhampur district in particular.
People who have lost everything in flood have still been deprived of relief and other basic needs, alleged he.
Criticising the Udhampur district administration, he said despite the 2500 metric tonne of rice received from the Chhattisgarh government for flood victims, the administration failed to distribute it among the flood victims. He added that large amount of rice was destroyed due to the negligence of the district administration which left it unattended at the Udhampur railway station in rain for several days. He demanded a high-level probe into the matter.
