Bhojpuri superstar Manoj Tiwari will be the Samajwadi party candidate from Gorakhpur constituency during the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
"I want to contribute my bit to development with good intentions. I have tremendous respect for Mulayam Singh Yadav and accepted his offer to contest elections," he said.
The actor-singer said he will go to Gorakhpur on January 16 but will make a formal announcement later at a function.
He was offered the options of Gorakhpur, Mirzapur and Bhadrohi by the SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav and general secretary Amar Singh.
Tiwari said he was not a political person but was concerned for the development of Poorvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh.
He said industrial investment and employment opportunities were the key to development of the region.
"I have already submitted my development proposals to industrialist Anil Ambani for the region," he added.
