MANY GIRLS, who came here to receive Kanya Vidya Dhan, fainted at a stadium during Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s programme on Wednesday. They complained of nausea, giddiness and headache.
Unable to bear the heat and high humidity, many girls lay down on the ground. Their teachers and security personnel took them to a health camp in the stadium.
Majority of these girls were from Bulandshahar. They had started their journey early in the morning. Doctors treated at least 123 girls in temporary health centres inside the sports stadium, said chief medical officer Dr Upadhyay.
“Doctors and pharmacists are looking after the girls,” the CMO said, adding that many complained of giddiness due to diesel fumes that emitted from buses.
They were administered drips and ORS, he said.
“I did not eat anything because the food given to us was not good,” said Deepali of the LDAV College, Anoopshahar. She fainted along with Tehmina of Shikarpur and others. “We faced a drinking water crisis,” said Shaili Rastogi of Anoopshahar, while taking care of her ailing friend at the camp.
