Highlight Story

SEVERAL PERSONS were injured in Indore’s Kazi Ki Chawl area on Wednesday when around 25 men, armed with swords and other weapons went on the rampage pelting stones at houses, damaging shops, smashing cars, auto rickshaws and overturning two-wheelers.

These miscreants, claiming themselves to be members of the ‘Veer Shivaji Group’ entered houses of some people belonging to the minority community and ransacked them. Police and Rapid Action Force rushed to the area, which was gripped by tension and cordoned off the entire stretch of road and placed police pickets.

However, no one sustained serious injuries though two persons were reportedly roughed up by the miscreants. The trouble started at around 6 pm, minutes before the Roza was to be broken. The armed hooligans shouted pro-Hindu slogans.

The terrified residents of the area rushed to their houses and locked themselves in. The attackers entered the houses of Mohammad Shafi and Mohammad Nabidul Haider and ransacked them breaking furnitures, television, refrigerator, utensils and other household goods at Shafi’s house.

SP Anshuman Yadav said the situation was under control. He said some persons had been picked up for questioning.
