A commander of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) committed suicide in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district, police said on Tuesday.

Rajdev alias Chattan Singh consumed poison in his house at his native village Manpur in Surguja, 350 km from state capital Raipur, Monday.

"His body was recovered in his house Monday when the locals alerted the police," a police officer said.

Over 25 cases of murders and extortion were pending against Rajdev. He was spreading terror in Chhattisgarh's forested belt of Joba, the officer added.
