A Maoist was today killed in a fierce encounter with security personnel near Ranchi while another dreaded ultra nabbed in Jharkhand's Giridih district, police said today.
In an early morning encounter near Heso village, about 13 km from here, security personnel gunned down the Maoist, DGP control room sources said here.
The security forces headed by an ASP were fired upon Maoists following which a two-hour-long gunbattle followed between the two sides, they said.
The slain Maoist has been identified as Rajesh Kumar Munda (26) from Saida village in Tamar, about 50-km from here, they said, adding one carbine and cartridges were recovered from him.
Meanwhile, Lakhan Singh, a wanted Maoist who was active in Jamtara and Giridih districts, was nabbed at a village in Giridih following a tip-off.
A pistol and two bullets were seized from Singh's possession, Superintendent of Police (Giridih) A B Homker said.
