A Maoist woman cadre was killed in a fierce encounter with security forces and some weapons and explosives recovered in Orissa's Malkangiri district today, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, jawans of the elite anti-Naxal Special Operation Group (SOG) and police raided a dense forest in Chitrakonda, 70 kms from here and were challenged by the rebels camped there, sub-divisional police officer U S Das said.
When the security personnel retaliated, a fierce gun-battle ensued in which the woman ultra, aged about 25 years, was killed.
The slain rebel, who was in Maoist uniform, is believed to be from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Some of her associates are believed to have sustained injuries but escaped disappearing deep into the jungle, police said.
Three rifles, some landmines, grenades, ammunition and a kit bag were recovered from the encounter site during the combing operation later, they said, adding that additional security force has been rushed to the area.
