Maoist suspect in gun-battle held

A hardcore Maoist, one of the suspects in the encounter with police near Ramtalnagar village in Bihar on August 29 in which seven policemen were killed, was arrested.

A hardcore Maoist, one of the suspects in the encounter with police near Ramtalnagar village in Bihar on August 29 in which seven policemen were killed, was arrested.

Director General of Police, Neelmani today said the arrested naxalite, identified as Bechan Das, admitted his involvement in the encounter during interrogation.

The Maoists had also kidnapped four policemen following the August 29 gunbattle and released three personnel killing another.

The police have so far arrested 15 Maoists, including two self-proclaimed area commanders and suspected killers of Tete.
