Maoists are "obstructing" the development of India, Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said on Sunday after unfurling the national flag on the 64th Independence Day celebrations in Bhubaneswar.
"The Naxals (Maoists) are creating disturbances in some part of India as well as Orissa. They are obstructing developement," he said at the state-level function at Mahatma Gandhi Marg.
"I want to tell them (Maoists).... they will not be able to weaken our country," Patnaik said while speaking in Oriya.
"Development can be achieved only by peace and we are committed to that," he said.
