Maoists on Thursday attacked CRPF personnel in Orissa’s Malkangiri district. However, no one was injured in the incident, police said.
Four companies of CRPF personnel were returning after election duty early on Thursday when they came across obstructions placed by Maoists by felling trees on Malkangiri-Jeypore state highway near Gobindpalli in Mathili police station area, they said.
While trying to remove the hurdles from the road, the jawans noticed a bomb beneath a tree and it was immediately defused, Superintendent of Police Satyabrata Bhoi said.
When the CRPF personnel were busy removing the obstacles, the ultras fired on them and the jawans retaliated. However, nobody was injured in the shootout that continued for a few minutes, he said.
The traffic on the route was disrupted for about four hours due to the blockade, police said. Road communication later resumed after the trees were removed.
