Armed Maoists blew up a recently inaugurated tehsil office building on Sunday midnight, badly damaging its major portion at Kuwakonda in restive Dantewada district about 450 south of Raipur.

The police suspected the rebels might have used powerful explosives to blast the newly constructed office, which was inaugurated couple of months ago.

Dantewada senior superintendent of police SRP Kalluri told Hindustan Times the building was unoccupied as the staffs and office set-up are yet to be shifted in the new building premises. The repair work has begun after the additional forces deployed in the area.

“The walls of the office building were destroyed in the blasts triggered by the suspected Maoists”, the SP said.

Dantewada is considered as stronghold of outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoists) which had seen upsurge in violence unleashed by the rebels including the audacious attack on the security forces on April 6 this year killing 75 CRPF troopers and a state policeman near Chintalnar.
