Two persons were gunned down by Maoists for allegedly extorting money in the name of ultras from tribals in Orissa's Nabarangpur district, police said on Sunday.
The incident occured at Timanpur village in Raighar block bordering Chhattisgarh and villagers found the bodies in the nearby forest on Saturday night, they said.
The two persons, identified as Pradeep Kumar Mukharjee of Jharigam and Baishakhu Bhotra of Umerkote, were allegedly collecting money forcefully in the name of Maoists from tribal 'poddu' cultivators, they said.
When this came to the notice of the Maoists they called the two, who were missing for last three days from their villages, police said adding a poster was also found at the spot which stated the reason of murder.
As per the poster, the killing was excuted by Maoist cadre of Narayanpur Division. Narayanpur is a Maoist dominated area of Bastar District in Chhattisgarh.
Nabarangpur District Superintendent of Police Prafulla Barik, who rushed to the spot, said the incident was first of its kind in the district.
