In yet another incident of brutal murder, the Maoists killed a police chowkidar in Jharkhand’s Chatra district by slitting his throat and chopping-off hand in front of his family members.

“A strong group of over two dozen armed Maoists surrounded the chowkidar’s house at Meral village, about 200 km north from the state capital, last midnight, dragged him out and chopped-off his left hand in front of the wailing family members. The Maoists later slit throat of chowkidar, killing him on the spot, ignoring pleas of his family,” Superintendent of Police, Chatra, Dev Bihari Sharma told Hindustan Times on Tuesday.

A police team, which reached the village on Tuesday morning after getting information from the villagers, found a hand-written note left by the Maoists, stating the Chowkidar was killed for being police informer.

Earlier on October 7, the Maoists had beheaded the Special Branch police inspector Francis Induwar near Ranchi after keeping him in captivity for several days on the charges of being police informer. The Maoists had received nationa-wide flak for beheading Induwar.

In another incident, about 30 well-armed Maoists packed explosives inside a primary school at Rorad village in Lohardaga district, about 80 km west from the state capital, last night and blew it up.

Police records say, this was the 15th school blown up in Jharkhand in the last one month by the Maoists to prevent security forces from taking shelter during the election and anti-Naxal operations.
