Highlight Story

The Congress on Wednesday said depiction of PoK and Aksai Chin outside India in a map in Himachal Pradesh government's diary for 2009 was a serious goof up and demanded immediate sacking of the BJP dispensation in the state.

It was a serious lapse on part of the Prem Kumar Dhumal government and those behind this should be punished, Himachal Congress chief Kaul Singh Thakur told reporters in Shimla.

The Centre should take cognisance of this and dismiss the state government, he said adding there was a lurking fear of foreign agencies exploiting the issue.

The map, which showed Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Aksai Chin as not being part of India, was "erroneus", Thakur, an MLA, said and demanded an apology from the BJP to the nation.

on Wednesday, an embarrassed Dhumal government ordered an inquiry into the entire affair and recalled diaries already distributed.

The diary carries messages from the Governor and the Chief Minister. It also highlights various steps taken by the state government to develop the hill state.

The publication, containing latest telephone numbers of all ministers and senior officials of the state government, carries a national highway network map of India which does not correspond with country's official roadmap.
